Why you need to migrate to Google Analytics 4 (GA4)? and why you need to do it now?

The new, and improved, Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is here. You can’t escape from it as the current Google Universal Analytics you have just got your head around will stop collecting data on 1st July 2023. That may seem a long way away but as you can’t migrate your historical data across into GA4 the sooner you start collecting data and develop new reporting in the GA4 platform the better.

Google Universal Analytics has been around for some time now, build before smartphones were widely used, and is due for an update and the development of GA4 is in part due to the rapid advancements in technology and the changes in our attitudes to how we want or don’t want our data to be used and the legislation that has followed.

What are the advantages of GA4?

Smarter Insights

Google’s new platform uses advanced machine learning which means it will automatically alert you about significant trends in your data helping you to anticipate changes in customer behaviour, inform marketing decisions and improve return on investment.

Deeper engagement analysis

GA4 is built around users and events and not sessions. A focus on a individual customer centric approach rather than the device or platform analysis provided by universal analytics giving you a more holistic view of how a customer interacts with your business.

Do you need to switch to GA4?

Yes, yes, yes and the sooner the better.

You will need to set up a GA4 property and run this alongside your current Universal Analytics.

This means GA4 will start collecting data immediately which will start to be processed via Google's advanced machine learning making future analysis and insight more meaningful.
